Why this door handle?

In 1986, FSB invited leading international designers to Brakel for the legendary Design-Workshop. The central question: “Is it even possible to create new forms anymore?” Dieter Rams responded with this design.

The Dieter Rams design “rgs” enters the FSB product collection:
From 1988 onwards, FSB 1138 was part of the product collection under the name “rgs” (rams grey black), combining natural-finish aluminum with black thermoplastic. Production was discontinued in 2005 when the aging characteristics of the sourced plastic no longer met our quality standards.

The return of the rgs:
To mark the 40th anniversary of the door handle workshop, we are bringing back the iconic classic. Revised and future-oriented: The entire door handle is now manufactured completely from aluminum on-site in Brakel. The characteristic grey of the original rgs reappears in the new, resource-conscious Aluminum Pure finish. These minimal interventions were carried out in close coordination with Dieter Rams.

How the rgs feels:

  • The bold, rounded neck defines the pivot point
  • The grip features a clearly visible index-finger recess
  • The contact surfaces are slightly convex, providing the necessary grip volume for comfortable handling
